Let the journey to Aboriginal Village at HUTAN LIPUR KUALA WOH, Tapah begins!
Orang Asli, also known as aboriginal people, is a generic Malaysian term used for indigenous to Peninsular Malaysia. There are 18 Orang Asli tribes, categorized under three main groups according to their different languages and customs, which are Semang, Senoi and Proto-Malay.
Let’s discover the living aboriginal culture rich with traditions over many many years from weaving a basket to making a sumpit to indulge in the Orang Asli life for a day!
 |
#4 Heading to Orang Asli Village! |
Please look out for the road board to make sure you are at the right track.
50 minutes’ drive from Kampar to Tapah, Jalanism, planted the last footsteps on our FINAL destination, Aboriginal Village at Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh.
 |
#5 Our. Last. Destination. |
Before going to the Aboriginal Village, let us introduce you, the TUK BATIN, Encik Bah Tamin A/L Bah Huha. He will be our tour guide of today!
 |
| #7 The head of Aboriginal Village. |
 |
| # 8 Story Time with Tuk Batin. |
According to him, the villages were conserved since his ancestors for many years ago. Currently, there are 230 residents with the oldest lady aged 95 years old!
Their tribe is Semai and they have no religion. However, there are still traditions, beliefs and taboos that still remained until today.
Without any delay, here we go, to the P-A-R-A-D-I-S-E people – Kampung Batu Satu Aboriginal Village!
 |
| #9 The Great Escape. |
The scenery along the journey to the Aboriginal Village was just fascinating.
The warm dazzling sun, the heavenly trees welcome all of us.
 |
#10 |
 |
#11 |
You can even feel the golden rays of sunshine heated the cool, morning winds. And the decorative trees’ branches almost dance along with the gentle soothing music flowed from Mother Nature.
 |
#12 Crystal clear water. |
The clean, pure and unpolluted water was flowed from the hill of the mountain. No doubt, this is a great source of water for the whole village.
 |
#13 Captivated city kids. |
Can you imagine, no sound of vehicles can be heard and clean air to be taken in? One word, PEACEFUL.
We definitely were all stunned by the relaxing atmosphere that we certainly can’t get in the city.
 |
#14 The little kids were playing water
along the creek! |
Giggles and laughter can be heard from the river.
We almost got the urge to jump to join the fun with them. Where can we have this opportunities in urban area?
 |
| #15 The view of the village from the entrance. |
After mesmerizing views, we have reached aboriginal village!
 |
| #17 The empty hut. |
 |
| #18 The cottage. |
In the eyes of most people, Orang Asli is in the wrong time and place. They are struggling to catch up with the modern pace. In other words, they need to be modernized.
 |
#19 Bricked houses. |
Thus, to support and conserve the Orang Asli culture, concrete houses that are equipped with water and electricity also have been provided to end the Orang Asli nomadic lifestyle to hook up with the modern year life by the government.
According to Tuk Batin, those living in the bricked house are mostly youngsters had a job in the town and city. One shocking thing that we have learnt, they built they own houses with the supply of bricks from the government!
We have interviewed some residents about the making of the cottage.
 |
#20 The under construction hut. |
 |
#21 The roof of the cottage. |

 |
#22 Structure of cottage. |
Firstly, the roof of the cottage is made by thatch.
Normally, women are in charge to seek and hew the woods, thatches and bamboos in the jungle where the men are in charge to build the cottage.
It only required 5 person in a group—2 women and 3 men to complete a cottage WITHOUT A MACHINE in just a month time!
 |
#23 In the cottage |
And do you know how much is the cost of it?
ZERO!
And it can last long for 5 years. Although you can observe that there are some gaps between the thatches, but it is guaranteed no leakage will happen! After 5 years, some amendments will be made to maintain the cottage.

 |
#24 They sleep without a bed like this! The spacious cottage has many function like kitchen, assembly area for wedding or meeting and sleeping area. It's cooling and windy although it does not contain electricity!
Next, their daily lives.
 |
#25 Their meal. |
They wake up as early as 4am to begin their day and sleep at 8pm!
The Orang Asli in the village support their living by hunting wild animals like squirrels, monkeys and fox. Plus, they plant their own vegetables and fruits like petai, mangoesteen, rubber tree and rambutan.
 |
#26 |
The kids will be wandering around the jungle to play with anything.
 |
#27 |
Woman will be running their daily routine or working in the jungle.
 |
#28 Cooking in traditional + modern method. |
They used traditional way for cooking. They cut the wood into smaller pieces and light it up with matches to boil the water in the traditional pot.
And of course, source of water? RIVER.
However, to ease up their life, they also use the gas stove.
 |
#29 Tea time for us! |
Not to forget, the famous handcraft of the aboriginal!
 |
#30 The adorable Datuk & Nenek. |
We managed to interview Datuk and Nenek. We could’t catch their names as they were too shy.
 |
#31 Handmade basket by Nenek. |
Nenek explained that she weaved this basket in 3 days with Daun Mengkuang.
They keep anything with it, from rice to jewelry!
 |
#32 People in those days carried paddies like this! |
Move on to, SUMPIT!
They are aided by the sumpit, a six- foot long wooden blowpipe with a poisoned or a barbed tip, One quick puff sends the dart(sometimes twenty-yards away) to the victim, usually a wild pig, deer, squirrels, monkeys or even bears!
 |
#33 The 70 Year Old Strong Datuk! |
The materials were bamboo, bamboo stick, and getah jelutong.
 |
# 35 Process of making. |
 |
| #36 Securing the ‘stopper’ with Getah Jelutong. |
 |
#37 |
If you look at the picture carefully, you'll notice a state of intense concentration of energy and absorption.
 |
#38 The residue of poison. |
The process of poison making is tough, It is made from root of a tree that can be found in the deep jungle and will be boiled for 12 hours.
 |
| #39 Sumpit with poison. |
 |
#40 Demo time! |
 |
| #42 OUCH! |
See how accurate he is! It is about 10 meters away from the target ( Papaya) and he shot into the core of it, EASILY! Amazing!
 |
#43 Our attempt. |
 |
| # 44 |
It looked easy but skills and experiences were needed! Needless to say, we failed miserably! But it was fun trying it!
 |
| #45 |
We had our great time with them and we were amused by their stories, skills and experiences. Not to forget, their lifestyle.
 |
#46 A very big thank you to Datuk! |
People there enjoy the ‘togetherness’. They hang around, chat and do everything together!
 |
#48 |
 |
| #49 |
We were touched by their friendliness, kindness, humbleness and most importantly, we felt their love.
That’s the vanishing values that we have all forgotten in the city – harmony. We were all so busy living in our own world – money, gadgets & Internet.
But isn’t it time to really care and love the people around you especially your family and neighbors? Tell me when was the last time you have actually chatted with your neighbors?
 |
| #50 The last farewell. |
Today, the Aborigines are in trouble. Many have left their traditional lifestyle and have moved to suburbs to commit in a modern lifestyle.
So, why don't you open yourself up to the Aboriginal in Malaysia and connect with the world's most ancient living culture before it is too late!
Of course, this is merely just gaining experiences but also the initiative to understand and respect their customs, traditions, art, culture and ceremonies that date back to the beginning that have been passed down from generation to generation for more than 1000 years!
Once again, Jalanism had ‘Jalan’ into another side of world. This trip, especially, made us realized that we have to be contented with what we have. Appreciate and easily satisfied is the key to a happy life.
 |
| #51 Jalanism |
We have learnt so much since our first trip- Kellie’s Castle to Leaning Tower, especially COURAGE.
If you were afraid to even try, when would you ever learn? Be brave to make your first step, let the faith determine your future as the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step!!
 |
#52 The worn out slipper. |
Sadly, this is our last blogpost. However, our passion will not stop here! We shall continue our journey with a new pair of shoes perhaps!
Lastly, thank you for all your feedbacks and comments that drove our motivation to move forward. We enjoyed sharing everything with you and we are bowled over by your enthusiasm and support.
Till then, do we part. =)

To Sandra: Our team is gathered with a group of people who love to explore new and fresh thing. Aboriginal Village, of course, is a nice place to explore because less of the people are familiar with that. Due to this, we had decided to set Aboriginal Village as our last destination. It is our passion to share the nice thing to you.
To Stefenie: Yep, you are so right. Orang Asli live the way they used to be. Peaceful and harmony seem to be so hard to exist in urban area but they practice it everyday. We should learn from them!
To everyone who left the comments: Thank you for your feedbacks. Indeed, Aboriginal Village is a place worth to travel than anywhere else if you are seeking peace and calm. Should give it a try, the people there are friendly as well!
nice picture!! like paradise. great!
This place is historical yet fun. An ideal place to visit in weekend. Short journey, fun trip. :)
I think It's not easy to turn a simple and 'messy' orang-asli village into a travel based blog. But you all make something different which turns out amazingly stunning;filled with love and feel. I don't like it, I love it !
Nice arrangement and clear words used in describe the lifestyle of orang asli, detail information were all inside the picture and through this blog i had a better understanding to orang asli and perhaps this blog can encourage our government keep conserve their cultures^^thank Janalism for sharing those undiscovered places~

Nice, I no even go village of Orang Asli before.
After you all introduce, I have high interest to go take a look.
Yup, urban life a bit boring and stressful. I hope can release stress and enjoy their one day life at there.
Well done! I really love your blog so much!
So pity said that this is your last blog, I hope you can continuous to introduce more valuable place for readers.
Keep it up!!
BTW, need any entrance fee?
nice blog....:))))
WoW.. Orang Asli! I went orang asli village at Sarawak before, but i don't know Perak also had a orang asli village.
You all really introduced a good place for us. As a urban citizen, I really dislike the life full of stressful. We need some way to escape from all the troubles we faced. Go Orang asli village we can experience different life, enjoy natural environment, it is a good way to release stress and relax..
Thank for introducing such a good place..
I feels relax when reading your blog, in term of music and background. I love your blog so much!
Very informative and photo also attractive!
Keep it up and well done!
Unbelievable.Great to see that you guys could create a nice blog through this amazing way.Mysterious plus Jungle Tracking feeling make me have urge to try go for it one day!Good job guys!:)
First of all, the idea is pretty much impressing and i really gained much knowledge from the articles. The photos were also attention grabbing and i find it kinda fun to read through the passage. It gives me an impression that you people are really hardcore adventurists, which is rather good :)
But i will like to give a few suggestions to improve the quality of the post.
1) To me personally, i feel that there is slight grammatical error with the title of the blog. It should be "the road not taken" or "the road THAT has not BEEN taken"
2) The language used is kinda surface and may lack some senses of attraction. You may try to get some interesting (or rather bombastic) words to apply on some situations. It may improve your presentation of ideas as well as attract the attention of your visitors.
3) I don't know whether the numbers below each photos are compulsory not. But i feel it should be substituted with some captions of the photos. If the numbers are not necessary you can always remove them. And maybe in order to attract some attention to particular words, the words may be enlarged which represents that you highlight that word.
Finally, my overall comment is the blog post is fun to read and knowledgable but some improvements to be made to raise the standard of it. Thanks :)
P/S: i hope you don't really mind about the negative comments :) Just mere suggestions
wao...
this must be very meaningful. as if children nowadays don't really know what is so call orang asli, and how they live n how they survive without the life of technology.
this blog is giving information for those who dunno about orang asli.
well done. =))
i think this blog is nice because can learn a lot of experience between the different racer and culture among the people.

I really learn some cultures of Orang Asli, such as the cottage, the cooking style and also the handicrafts, especially the cottage...because the construction just completed in 1 month, and without the help of machine, i am impress. The datuk and nenek seems really kind, nice couple...maybe someday i will pay a visit there...really enjoy your blog, great job =)
I wan go there! Your all writing till very attractive, make me want and hope to there for experience their life! The blog really nice. Can see your all really put effort in. well done!
To DapheDafen: In fact, the images of the kids are hard to capture, all are credited to our group's photographer. He has enthusiasm to catch the beautiful things and share with you. We will keep on providing the information about Aboriginal Village if there is extra.
To Sean: Yep, maybe we are just so tiring about the urban busy lifestyle, that's why we chose the Aboriginal Village as our last destination. Not need entrance fee at all, but you have to pay Datuk RM2 each person if you want him to show you the process of making sumpit.
Hi tamy here, wanna sy a few things about your blog.
For your content:
I like how you guys explained the life of the orang asli, it's detail and neat. This really helps me understand how fortunate I am. It's also a very fascinating place to visit, to learn thier culture and sort. However, I think the picture quality varies among the pictures in the blog. I think you guys shouldn't edit the real pictures. Or you could use those edited ones on your banner instead of your content.
For your blog design:
The background music, and picture really matches the content. However, I hink the banner quality is a bit low. So you guys might want to improve the banner or something. The font of the content seems a bit messy. As they were a few colours, I think your highlighted text colours should be more prominent, more eye catching, and more contrast to your normal text.
that's all. bye. :D
wow..i love nature..nice..relax..
Nice! I love it so much! Your blog design is good and the music is match the tittle.
The content and writing skill is attractive and impressive. The information your all give also enough to sufficient us. I like it so much!
Unexpected a group of student can do such a great work.. Really not bad.. Keep it up..
An eye-opening experience you guys had. Nice picture and detailed information. Like the way you laid out the info.

To anonymous,
We certainly welcome any kind of comment. thank you for your feedback.
1)about our blog name, there's actually a name for our blog. We have chosen it as it rhymes, and it's short to be remembered. We certainly cant blame on the uniqueness of the creation of names right? There's many out there with short forms that can be considered as a mistake also but it actually an addition of gist to it=)
2) we have chosen not to apply many jargon words into it because our target audiences were not only for those who are highly educated ones.Of course, we do apply some but not ALL/much. Our aim is to create a clear understanding for all to understand and to avoid confusion among the readers.
3) the reason of inserting numbers in the caption was aim for reference. It's like "point form" caption for us. Let's say if readers has any prob/feedback, it can be easily referred. About the typography that you have mentioned, we will improve on that too.
Thank you so much for your comments and suggestions. it actually provide us ideas to expand our room of improvements.
Hope all these will clear you confusions!
good job good job.
nice blog, nice pic.
the music is nice also. love it.
I'll try to go there after my sem break because i love nature.
i will give it a try.^^
Hmm... i like the post title. "the road not taken", meaningful n easy to rmb.
the post idea was great too. I guess few ppl could really give this kind of life a try. but ur post do really make me feel the life there and i will go and try 1day.
Give u all some tips, the blog head pic is nice but if the theme can be more natural, more simple will be nicer and also the font colour/style.
overall, u guys did a great job.
Dear tamy,
Thank you for your precious feedback=)
We are currently improving our typography and also the banner like what you have mentioned.
We could have overlooked if you havent point it out.
Thanks and hope you enjoyed reading our blog!
What a special place!! I liked your blog post so much!! Different with other blogs, you guys emphasized on the nature environment and taught us a precious lesson: money can't buy peace and nature. I will appreciate what i own and protect everything that is natural.
Thanks Jalanism!!
really really a nice place. althought they live in a poor environment, but they still enjoy their life.through this, i am sure i am very felicity...
Proud with all of you!! I followed your first blog -- Kellie Castle till now. Each time i can feel your great effort in the blog post, no matter in the aspect of writing skills, photography, or background design.
No doubt to say: AMAZING!!
wow...this is cool~
nice environment and it's good for jungle climbing =D....
thanks for sharing ya =D
a very nice place. i want also go to there to relax. escape from my exam, assignment~!! really interesting. thank guys for introducing this nice place. HUTAN!!
Wah!! A sweet escape to Hutan Lipur? I want to do so, but i can't. I am loaded with a lot of assignments. You guys made me envy, envy why your assignments can be so fun and full with joy. And, i know you guys paid a lot of effort on that. Just keep it on. =)
The first impression that pop up in my mind is: Jalanism is so hardworking. I think all of you spend a lot of time in doing research on that place. The research is not easy to be done especially Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh is located at far-off area.
The blog post is informative enough and make me having a lot of interest in reading it.
Good job!
To the persons who left the comments here: Thank you for praising us. Our crew is so happy to see your positive comments. We have been gone through hardship in order to provide you the most updated and accurate information and we felt it is worth when the audiences are satisfied with our work and give us a big thumb!
Yet, it's too bad that this is our last blog post. To bring you all something different, Aboriginal Village was chosen! At least much more different compared with our last two blog post--Kellie's Castle and Leaning Tower. I hope you guys really like it! We appreciate so much!!
It is sad to hear that this is the last blog post posted by you. You did a great job and it should not be ended. I will wait you to continue the journey with a pair of new shoes and discover more inconspicuous place for me.
To Keke: Indeed, our journey was filled with fun and joy just merely because of all of us shared the same interest, that it is love to travel around and share the interesting things with others! We didn't treat it as an assignment but we treat it as a chance for us to explore more. That's why wonderful things always happening in our journey!
To BaNsoN: Thank you so much! It did take time to do the research but it is our job or in another word, we have the passion to share with you!
A nice trip that indulging with nature. Perhaps I can do so in my coming semester break. I want to have an escape and away from all worries. You introduce the great place for me with the great photos and information as well. Appreciated!! ^^
Thanks for sharing such a great place-- Hutan Lipur Kuala Woh. I live in Perak for over 20 years, yet I don't know the emergence of this place, such an embarrassment.
I enjoy reading your blog post as I can feel the passion that you emphasized the most in your blog post.
However, the picture of the banner is a little bit blur. It would be the only one imperfect flaw in your blog post. Others are good. Keep it on!!!
Awesome! I believe you guys put a lot of effort in this blog post as it would be your last blog post. Without a doubt, it is a nice blog with informative details and clear images and pictures. I went there before, and it was quite tiring and challenging. However, the compliments from people showed the worth of my perspiration. So, i think you will have the same thought with me right?
Music - Perfect
Photos - Perfect
Description - Perfect
Background - Perfect
Everything is in perfect and well-organized. I enjoyed reading for every moment, together with Jalanism. Your blog post is able to motivate me to look positively and move forward. Thanks!
thx for sharing!!
This post is really informative. It really opened my eyes to the Aboriginal people's lifestyle. Although I have visited a similar place back in Sarawak, but I only spent 10mins with them and didn't get to learn much. Love the motivation boost at the end of the post. We won't learn if we're afraid to try. Thanks and keep it up :)
Wow, I like the picture and very detail about orang asli....I hope one day I can go there to stay..... haha, who wanna to accompany me?? hehe....
To Beyond Qing: Wanna to have a sweet escape just like what we did? This coming semester break will be a golden chance for you to do so!
To Dear Anonymous: Thank you for your suggestion, we will improve it by replacing it with a more quality picture!
To Zsicssdiss Wong: If you went there before you should how peaceful and beautiful the place is!
To mIsIakI: Thank you for the favorable comment! Yea, we did our best to ensure that the outcome is good enough to be shown to you all! Thank you again!
To Kaili: Opps, you should spend more time with them! But it's okay for now, coz you don't have to travel a thousand miles away just to visit the Aboriginal Village in Sarawak. There is another option, the Aboriginal Village which is located at Tapah, Ipoh. I believe that it is much nearer for you to reach there if you're living in Peninsular Malaysia. Again, thank you so much for your opinion!
well done...i gt get many information about this village...maybe nx time u all k introduce other funny and interest place to me...coz u noe la...kampar quiet...bored..haha

Aww~~~ such a good but yet informative entry again!! hopefully this wont be ur last post because i'm eager for more! and their life is totally what i'm looking forward for, life in a big city just tiring and stressful. But the first thing i have to adapt when i move to such rural area is live without INTERNET !!
To Tan Suk Voon: You're right, it will be a big challenge for us to live without Internet. Yet, this is the precondition to adapt to their lifestyle. If this is the lifestyle that you yearn for, Aboriginal Village will be a best choice for you to experience the different lifestyle!
Thank you for your comment!!
waaa,good post. bravo !!! :)
Hmm...for the advancement of technologies nowadays,it is hard for most of the youngsters hang out anywhere without mobile phone and most of them would like to spend their time to play facebook. They prefer online communication instead of face-to-face communication. For me,if I being given a chance to join some sort of activities like this,I surely will join it.Of course I will feel unsafe and uncomfortable when my mobile phone is not with me,which is very important in my daily life for me to contact with people. But,I like the way orang asli live, seems harmony, freedom and feel relax! The most important thing is,they can stay in the cottage which is no cost at all...I love this life style,it might help me relax my mind when I feel stress and helpless when I face any problems which I unable to solve it.

I no even touch "sumpit" before, it is heavy and long? Nowadays, they still use this "sumpit" to catch their food? Very interesting. I will go there if i have a chance. Anyway, thank for sharing with us this naturally place.
Last, need any entrance fees?

To Wantanmee: Thank you for your feedback!
Let us tell you the truth, the signal of mobile phone was so weak when we were in the Aboriginal Village. We couldn't even make a phone call! But the feeling of unsecured will be disappeared soon when you feel the peace and the friendliness of the people in the village. No doubt, it required you to give up something to experience the different lifestyle in the Aboriginal Village!
To Joojoo: Thank you for your favorable comment!
It was just so fun when we were with them! Language won't be a obstacle for us to communicate and we speak in Malay. And it's too bad to say that this our last blog post, yet, the spirit of Jalanism will not be ended as we have come to our last blog post. We will continue our journey in life and we hope that you will have your own wonderful journey too! Thank you again!
To Christmas V.: Thank you for your supporting since we released the first blog post. We have gone through a lot, from the selection of group name to "jalan" around Perak. There is an invisible bond between us and we really hate to say goodbye to you all.
Well, let's back to the topic. The sumpit is a bit heavy and of course. it is long. Yes, they are using sumpit to hunt. No advanced technology tool to be used to hunt an animal. Sounds interesting right? Then you should go there to experience it by yourself!
To Ruy: Thank you for your comment!
Yes, they are providing accommodation for the visitors. It is something like home-stay. You have to contact them before you go there. The information about how to reach and contact them are being provided in our blog. Kindly to have a look to avoid any inconvenient.
To those who dropped your comments here: Million thanks for you all! We are grateful about that! All the hardships are worth to gain a favorable comment from you all! Thanks for praising our works and thanks for pointing out the mistakes/imperfects that we have done. A comment does change. We appreciated each comment that you have left. Thank you so much!! :)
To Christmas. V: Sorry for overlooking your last question. Not need to pay any entrance fee when you are visiting Aboriginal Village. But you have to pay for Datuk to view the process of making sumpit, RM2 each person.
